SSC Welcomes New Vice President of Administration Three New Directors

South Suburban College Proactively Advances into the Future with Strong Internal and External Leadership

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–On June 1, 2022, Patrick Rush was welcomed to the role of Vice President (VP) of Administration at South Suburban College (SSC). Rush brings nineteen years of organizational leadership experience to this position, effectively impacting the public sector via the Illinois House of Representatives and higher education. His career also expands into the private sector in healthcare and accounting.

"Public speaking, relationship building, and organizational development are among Patrick's top strengths," said SSC President Dr. Lynette D. Stokes. "From fundraising to strategic planning; board growth to staff engagement, he has experienced diverse responsibilities throughout his career that have added to his leadership toolkit.”

Rush oversees the administrative division of the College, spearheading staff mentorship and critical budgetary matters. "It has been an honor to be welcomed and supported in my new role by Chairman Wells and our Board of Trustees, as well as Dr. Stokes and our Executive Leadership Team,” Rush remarked. “Much of my first 90 days has been focused on advancing our institution's plans for growth, and I look forward to making a greater impact on student success in collaboration with our talented faculty, staff, and administration."

Rush previously held dual positions at SSC as the Executive Director of Public Relations and Resource Development in addition to the Executive Director of the South Suburban College Foundation (SSCF). Zanetta Miller, a previous adjunct instructor at SSC with over nine years of experience in public relations and marketing, assumed Rush’s prior roles on August 29, 2022.

The SSCF also welcomed two new directors to the board on August 23, 2022: Toy Ann McCray and Angela Shumpert. McCray, UPS Regional Community Relations Manager, brings 25 years of management experience. “One determined person can make a significant difference, and a small group of determined people can change our future trajectory. It is my experience that coming together with individuals that cannot do what I do, and I can do what they cannot do, together we can do great things,” McCray remarked. Shumpert, owner and founder of Genesis Building Services, brings over 30 years of property management and business development experience. They add a wealth of knowledge to the SSCF from their respective areas.

Led by a robust board of directors with a mission to support the educational purposes and objectives of the College, the SSCF has a primary focus on student support in the form of various scholarships. The SSCF works cooperatively with individuals and organizations in developing a customized giving plan to meet the needs and desires of donors.
