40-Year-Old Woman Dies When SUV Flips On I-294

CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — A 40-year-old woman died Thursday morning when her SUV ran off the road on I-294 near Chicago Ridge mile-post 16.26, according to Illinois State Police. Her name is being withheld pending notification of family.

Around 5:30 a.m., the woman was driving a blue SUV when she ran off the roadway and struck the metal guardrail. Police said the SUV flipped over the guardrail and landed in the ditch. The SUV became fully engulfed in flames. The North Palos Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.

Police said the driver was confirmed deceased at the accident scene. There were no other passengers in the vehicle. The crash is currently under investigation.
