Give a shelter pet a forever home and donate blood this Saturday, June 10, at the Oak Lawn Public Library's Community Day.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Need a new furry friend? Area animal rescue groups and community helpers will be at the Oak Lawn Public Library this Saturday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with dogs and cats looking for a forever home. The Adopt-Don’t-Shop event will be held on the Village Green behind the library at 9427 Raymond Ave. in Oak Lawn.

Families and individuals interested in adopting a pet can start the process on Saturday (please leave your own pets at home). Local animal rescue groups attending the Adopt-Don’t-Shop event include:

The Heartland Blood Mobile will also be collecting life-saving blood donations. The blood bank is critically low for A-positive, O-positive and O-negative blood types. Since mid-April, Heartland has seen a downturn in blood donors. There is no artificial substitute for human blood. Someone is the United States needs blood every two seconds. Individuals age 16 and over who donate blood will receive a $10 Target gift card.
