Athlete of the Week: Richards' Kara Rockey Leads Bulldog Volleyball Defense
Junior Kara Rockey is digging her role as Richards' defensive specialist, looks to power Bulldog charge in conference play.
Richards girls volleyball coach Troy Grevengoed says Kary Rockey is the Bulldogs' best athlete. And that’s why he expects her to cover corner-to-corner on Richards’ back row.
She certainly did that in Richards’ season-opener, recording 11 digs and helping the Bulldogs to a 25-13, 25-11 victory over Thornwood. The outstanding performance was one that earned her Patch Athlete of the Week honors for Oak Lawn.
“Kara Rockey’s a great defensive player,” Grevengoed said. “She sees the ball well, she’s got a great serve in the back row and covers a lot of court.”

As a junior, Rockey will also be counted on for her leadership to guide a young Richards team with conference championship aspirations.
