OAK LAWN, IL — Back-to-school planning has already begun in Oak Lawn-Hometown Dist. 123 with calendars available to help parents prepare their children for a smooth transition into the 2023-2024 school year.

The first day of school for Dist. 123 students will be a half-day Aug. 23 for K-8 students. Early dismissal will be at 11:30 a.m.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. We also suggest that you check the Dist. 123 calendar and your child’s school calendar (Covington, Sward, Hannum, Kolmar, Hometown and Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School) for conferences, open houses, meetings, exams, early dismissals, athletic and other school events.

Aug. 23 - First day for K-8, early dismissal 11:30 a.m.

Sept. 4 - Labor Day, off

Oct. 9 - Indigenous People Day, off
Oct. 13 - Family conference, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., no school

Nov. 20 to Nov. 24 - Thanksgiving break

Dec. 22 to Jan. 7 - Winter Break

Jan. 8 - School resumes
Jan. 15 - Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, off

Feb. 19 - Presidents Day, off
Feb. 23 - Family conferences, off

March 4 - Casimir Pulaski Day, off
March 19 - Election day, Teacher Institute Day, no student attendance
March 25 to April 1 - Spring break

May 27 - Memorial Day, off

June 4 - Graduation
June 5 - Last day of school, 11:30 a.m. dismissal
