While under police surveillance, Durr was observed around 11 a.m. Jan. 30 allegedly trying to force entry at a home in the 8000 block of South Menard in Burbank. A Wilmette detective contacted Burbank police and identified himself as a member of a special police task force.

According to the Wilmette detective, Durr parked the Nissan Altima and walked up to the door. Durr rang the doorbell several times and knocked on the picture window. When nobody answered, Durr pulled out a tool and began prying the storm door.

The front door opened and an elderly woman looked out. Durr walked away from the house. He entered the Nissan and drove away, Burbank police reports said.

Police went back to talk to the woman with a Polish-speaking Burbank police officer. The resident said she heard her doorbell ring and someone banging on her doors and windows. When she opened her doors, she saw an African-American man on the front porch, police said.

Another burglary attempt was also made Jan. 30 in Burbank, where prosecutors said Durr tried to break into a residence in the 7700 block of South Massasoit.

The attempted burglaries in Burbank were followed by two more break-ins Jan. 31 at an apartment building in Berwyn, where Durr was arrested, prosecutors said.

Burbank police went to MacNeal Hospital where Durr was being treated for a leg injury. He allegedly told police he wanted to help them out, he had smoked a lot of weed that day and did not remember going to the Burbank residences.

While at the Berwyn police station, the Wilmette detective shared surveillance video of Durr going up to the Massasoit residence. The video showed Durr banging on the windows and doors. Durr was working on the storm door with a pry bar. He fled when a 13-year-old child opened the door, reports said.

Durr made the rounds suburban courthouses, where bail was set at $50,000 with electronic home monitoring in Skokie for a burglary Jan. 19 in Wilmette, where Durr was said to have taken a laptop and charging cord form a residence.

The prosecutor said Durr is currently on parole from the Lawrence Correctional Center where he was serving two concurrent six-year sentences for residential burglary. He also has felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a felon, armed home invasion, armed robbery and contempt., according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.

Judge Havis set bail at $100,000 for each of the three burglaries in Orland Park and Burbank. Durr’s next hearing is Feb. 23 in Bridgeview.
