Barricaded Man Surrenders Peacefully After 11-Hour Standoff: Police

Oak Lawn police said man who barricaded himself in a residence was suicidal.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A man who had barricaded himself inside a residence in Oak Lawn ended peacefully after almost eleven-hour standoff with police. Oak Lawn police said the man surrendered himself to police early Friday morning.

Around 7:22 p.m. Thursday, the Oak Lawn Regional Emergency Communication Center received a call of an armed suicidal man in a home in the 4100 block of West 109th Street. Police showed up and set up a perimeter and tried to talk to the man, who was alone and had barricaded himself in the residence.

The South Suburban Emergency Response Team was also called in to assist Oak Lawn police. As attempts to have the man surrender continued through the night, the Cook County Hostage Barricade Team relieved other officers. At approximately 6:03 a.m., police said the man surrendered himself to police. There were no injuries anyone involved.

Oak Lawn police thanked SSERT and Cook County HBT for their assistance in a written statement. Police also extended their thanks to residents in the area for their cooperation. The name of the man is being withheld at this time.
