Barricaded Man Surrenders Peacefully After Stand-Off: Police

A man who barricaded himself inside a home believed to be armed with a gun surrenders after 3-hour standoff in Oak Lawn, police said.

OAK LAWN, IL — A man who barricaded himself for several hours Tuesday evening in a house in Oak Lawn surrendered peacefully to police. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Oak Lawn Police Department Division Chief Ross Finnelly told Patch police responded to a domestic situation involving a male and female around 8 p.m. When police arrived, Finnelly said the man brandished a long gun. By that time the man was alone in the house.

A large police presence assembled and the area was roped off with crime scene tape. The Cook County Emergency Management Response Team comprised of members of various police departments suited up in SWAT gear and were assisting on the scene.

Police were trying to talk to the man. Around 11:30 p.m. Finnelly reported that the man had surrendered peacefully to police. It is not known if the man will be charged.
