Boyfriend Accused of Choking Girlfriend Until She Gurgled

The couple had been on a picnic at a park in Justice when they began arguing about him not calling her his wife, prosecutor said.

JUSTICE, IL -- A Chicago man was arrested after he choked and strangled his girlfriend while they were on a picnic, prosecutors said. Ramiro Servin appeared before Cook County Judge Michael Kane on charges of aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery and criminal damage to property. The prosecutor said this is Servin’s third arrest for domestic battery.

According to the charges, Servin went to a park in Justice on April 30 with his girlfriend, where the couple cooked and drank. When they were packing up their picnic, the woman complained to Servin about him not calling her his wife, the prosecutor said. The two allegedly pulled each other’s hair and punched each other. Servin allegedly put his his hands around his girlfriend’s neck and choked her until she gurgled.

The woman asked to use someone’s phone so she could call the police. When Servin saw her on the phone, he allegedly grabbed it and smashed it. Servin then kicked his girlfriend’s car, the prosecutor said.

Servin was ordered to surrender any weapons to Justice police. A pre-trial safety assessment flagged him for violence. Bail was set at $250,000. Servin’s next court appearance is May 29.
