Celebrating Richards graduates for Black History Month
University of Iowa, Duke University grads; professional counselor, news content coordinator to start our series.
To celebrate Black History Month, District 218 will graduates from Eisenhower, Richards, and Shepard high schools who have achieved noteworthy success academically, professionally, artistically, in public service, or in some other field of endeavor.
This story, the first of several this month, features graduates from Richards High School.
Dominique Evans, Class of 2010Dominique currently works as the Content Coordinator for KSHB 41 Action News in Kansas City. His resume spans many projects and organizations in media -- and many awards too!.

Cameisha Hurst, Class of 2014

Cameisha graduated with honors from the University of Iowa with a bachelo's degree in finance. Today she works for Wells Fargo as a Compliance Consultant.
Ji'Vone Freeman, Class of 2013

Ji'Vone earned a presidential scholarship to Philander Smith College, a private historically black college in Little Rock, Arkansas. At Philander, he participated in leadership roles in multiple student organizations such as Student Government Association, National Institute of Science, and First Year Experience Mentoring. In 2015, he was initiated into the Pi Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
- In 2016, he was named the Arkansas Scholar of the Year for Omega Psi Phi. In 2017, he was named as the 9th District Scholar of the Year, the top scholar for the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. In addition,
- Ji’Vone participated in research every summer of his undergraduate career, interning at the Scripps Research Institute at the University of South Carolina, and Arkansas State University.
- He graduated from Philander Smith College Summa Cum Laude with a Distinction in the field of Biology in May of 2017.
- In May of 2018, he graduated from Duke University School of Medicine with a Master of Biomedical Sciences. Prior to starting medical school at Howard University in 2019, Ji’Vone worked as an Emergency Medical Technician, Clinical Research Specialist, and Patient Care Technician. Currently, Ji’Vone is a 2nd year medical student with plans to work as a pediatrician.
- He currently holds leadership positions in Howard’s Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and Pediatrics Interest Association, while also volunteering for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ Teen Promise Project, an initiative to combat rising teen pregnancy rates through sexual education. As a physician Ji’Vone intends to dedicate his time towards creating opportunities for young African Americans in medicine.
Ashley Edwards, Class of 2008
Ashley works as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Childbirth Educator. "I do a lot of work within the prenatal world and working with women and children," she said.
