Chicago Man Dies from 2-Story Fall During Music Fest at Toyota Park

Bridgeivew, IL -- A 29-year-old Chicago man died of injuries he suffered from a fall during a music festival in Bridgeview.

Robert D, Smucz, of Chicago, was pronounced dead late Friday night at Advocate Christ Medical Center hours after he fell from the mezzanine section at Toyota Park. Smuz had been attending the Chicago Open Air Festival with two friends, Bridgeview Police spokesman Ray Haninia said.

Witnesses told police at the time of the accident that Smucz had been sitting on a railing in the mezzanine section when he fell two stories and landed on the pavement below.

Hanania said the incident appears to be a tragic accident.

He was taken to Advocate Christ in extremely critical condition where he died.

Organizers of the three-day heavy metal music fest referred comments to the Bridgeview Police Department.
