Chicago Ridge Adds Holiday Shopping Hours, Youth Supervision Policy Lifted for Black Thursday

Chicago Ridge Mall is adding extra hours for the 2015 holiday season, starting on Thanksgiving.

Chicago Ridge Mall will be open from 6 p.m. to midnight for Black Thursday shoppers on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 26.

The mall’s youth supervision policy will not be in effect Thursday evening, but will be in place Fridays and Saturdays throughout the holiday season and the rest of the year.

The youth supervision policy, which prohibits young people age 17 and under from being in the mall unsupervised after 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Youth must be accompanied by a parent or other adult over the age of 21 after 5 p.m. and remain with the adult at all times when they are in the mall.

Photo ID -- a passport, driver’s license, state or military ID -- must be presented for proof of age. The supervising adult is responsible for the conduct and actions of youths. Only six young people at a time are allowed to be supervised by an adult after 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Mall employees under age 17 may work when the youth supervision policy is in effect, but are required to leave the mall when their shifts end.

The youth supervision policy was instilled after after a fight broke out in the mall’s food court last December. After a report of shots fired, which turned out to be a restaurant owner banging some pots together to disperse the fight, police from surrounding communities responded to the mall.

Although some major stores are scheduled to open earlier Thanksgiving afternoon -- Carson’s, Kohl’s, Old Navy -- the general mall area will remain closed until 6 p.m.

Mall stores that plan to remain closed on Thanksgiving, include Classy Nails, Lenscrafters, Schoops, Brow Art 23, Tailor’s Final Touch, Aldi, Bed Bath and Beyond, Rogers and Hollands, Fast Fix Jewelry, H&M, GameStop and Visionworks.

Chicago Ridge Mall will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, for Black Friday shopping.
