Armando Junior, who was inside the mall when the melee broke out, posted this statement on the Burbank Beat Facebook page:

“I was in there with my friends. There was a fight about an hour before the much bigger incident. As we walked in to the food court on our way from Carson’s, we saw a big mob of people. I was standing near an exit while my friends recorded. Moments after I heard 2-3 small pops people began to run out so I did the same. I saw people were getting back so I also went back and regrouped with my friends in the theater. Once I walked in to the theatre I wasn’t allowed to get out. Eventually, they closed the theatre and let everyone out. Definitely a night to remember!”

Police from surrounding communities remained on the scene at Chicago Ridge Mall securing entry doors and preventing shoppers unaware that the mall had been closed for the evening from entering.
