Bridgeview, IL -- Online photos and videos of children engaged in various sex acts, including bestiality, were traced to the home computer of a registered sex offender, prosecutors said in court Thursday.

Jason Jeffries, 35, whose last known address is the 11800 block of South Komensky, Alsip, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on charges of possession of child pornography, a Class X felony, and dissemination of child pornography.

Investigators from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force identified a potential source of child pornography, where they downloaded images from a peer-to-peer file sharing program between Dec. 8, 2015 and Dec. 10, 2015.

The prosecutor said that investigators were able to identify the IP address, which belonged to Jeffries’ computer. Police executed a search warrant at Jeffries’ residence on Tuesday.

There, police recovered several computers, including a desktop computer from Jeffries’ bedroom. A forensic analysis determined that 16 images, task force members had downloaded during their investigation were found on Jeffries’ computer, the prosecutor said.

During the search of his residence, prosecutors said that Jeffries arrived home. He allegedly admitted to police that the computer and images belonged to him.

The prosecutor said that Jeffries also told police he had molested a child in the past, and that he was “doing the best he could to cope and not make the same mistake again."

A pre-scan of the images found on Jefferies’ computer included photographs and videos of children younger than 13 engaged in various sex acts, urination and excretion of a sexual nature, and bestiality, prosecutors said.

If convicted of the Class X felony charge, Jeffries faces a mandatory minimum consecutive sentence of nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Jeffries has a 2000 conviction for aggravated criminal sexual assault of a 5-year-old child, for which he received 48 months’ probation, prosecutors said.

In 2007, he was convicted for failure to register as a sex offender and served six months in the Cook County Department of Corrections. Jeffries is designated as a sexual predator on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Jeffries lives with his father, brother and 17-year-old nephew. He is unemployed and takes care of his father and grandmother. The Internet has been removed from the house.

Jeffries’ public defender also said that police confiscated his cell phone. He requested that he be placed on electronic home monitoring.

“I’ll place him on electronic home monitoring if he can post bond on $1 million,” Judge Felice said.

The judge set bail at $1 million. He also ordered Jeffries to have no contact with children under 18, except for household members, and to not come within 500 feet of a school or park. Jeffries is to be placed on electronic home monitoring and to have no Internet access.

“I want a GPS [tracking device] on him too,” Judge Felice said.

Jeffries next court date is April 14 in Bridgeview.
