OAK LAWN, IL — Two seniors. Two leaders. One dynamic double team. Mia Wendt and Avery Wessel finished up their high school girls tennis careers last weekend, but the job they did as leaders, tennis players, and spiritual guides lifted the Spartans to a second-place finish in the South Suburban Conference Red meet and provided stability in the lineup for Oak Lawn Community High School all season long.

“They have been the foundation of our team this whole season,” OLCHS head coach Dan Doyle said. “They have anchored the very difficult number-one doubles slot for varsity tennis. In doing so, they have taken a lot of pressure of facing our best opponents onto their shoulders.

“They have also been the spiritual leaders of the team for the whole season. They lead by example. They have been an invaluable guide to the younger players, showing them the right way to practice and how to conduct themselves on the courts. Their leadership and their spirit will be difficult to replace next year.”
