Book Discussion: “Cutting for Stone”

The Oak Lawn Public Library, 5300 W. 95 St., will host a book discussion of “Cutting for Stone” on Wednesday, July 6, from 7-8 p.m.

This 2009 novel by Abraham Verghese tells the story of twin brothers Marion and Shiva, whose births are the result of an illicit affair between an Indian nun and a reclusive but brilliant surgeon.  Set in a medical compound in poverty-stricken and politically unstable Ethiopia, this is an old-fashioned and beautifully written tale of scandal, love, betrayal, sibling rivalry and family bonds.
