Fabulous Fall Trip: “Route 66: An American Icon (Part II)”
Get your kicks on "Route 66" with the Friends of the Oak Lawn Public Library on Sept. 13

“If you ever plan to motor west, travel my way, take the highway that is best. Get your kicks on Route sixty-six” (Nat King Cole) with the Friends of the Oak Lawn Public Library. Renowned Route 66 author and guide John Weiss returns and picks up from the original tour to narrate a stretch of iconic Route 66 from Dwight, IL to Atlanta, IL. The journey begins on Wednesday, Sept. 13 in Dwight with breakfast at the nostalgic Route 66 Diner (just after 9am). The group will then head south to visit some unique sights such as the former Illinois State Police Office; Memory Lane - the original stretch of Route 66; Spraque’s Super Service gas station; the infamous Beer Nuts plant to sample products; and charming shops, diners, wall murals and the giant Paul Bunyan “Muffler Men” statue. The trip concludes with dinner at Country Mansion Restaurant in Dwight (around 4:15pm). So come along, “as we get our kicks on Route sixty-six.”
