Fire House Visit Sparks Memories for Retired Firefighter with Dementia

For one former fireman, a visit to the Tinley Park Fire station stirred up a host of memories. To show his thanks to a new generation of firefighters, Allen Williams, a retired lieutenant from the Chicago Fire Department, enlisted the help of fellow residents at Porter Place, an Anthem Memory Care community specializing in dementia.

Together the seniors brought care packages and cupcakes to the Tinley Park Fire Station #47 to celebrate National Firefighter’s Day and show their appreciation on May 4. The firefighter themed cupcakes were provided by Creative Cakes in Tinley Park.

The seniors toured the fire house, and Williams shared his passion with the dedicated men and women who put their lives on the line every day.

“This was a wonderful way for Allen to reminisce and connect with the new generation of firefighters and join his friends in recognizing their dedication to the citizens of Tinley Park,” said Kelley Tighe, community relations director. “It brought our residents great joy to show their thanks in person to these first responders and learn more about their exciting work.”
