First Coronavirus Death Reported At Advocate Christ

Two Cook County men in their sixties died of coronavirus, including the first publicly noted death at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

OAK LAWN, IL — Two Cook County men in their sixties died of the coronavirus death on March 21 and March 23, including the first death noted publicly at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

The medical. examiner determined that a 69-year-old man died as a result of acute hypoxic and hypercapnic respiratory failure due to COVID-19 infection with hypertensive cardiovascular disease and atrial fibrillation as contributing factors. He died March 23 at Advocate Christ. The man has not been identified.

Carl G. Redd, 62, from Chicago’s Auburn-Gresham neighborhood, was died March 21 at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. The medical examiner attributed the case of death to acute hypoxic respiratory failure due to aspiration due to nontraumatic anoxic brain injury with COVID-19 infection, with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, osteomyelitis and hypertension as contributing factors.

The coronavirus deaths bring the total in Cook County to eight, with 16 deaths reported in Illinois as of Tuesday. Statewide there are 1,535 cases.
