History for Shepard show choir

First place at Mt. Zion, a sweep of caption awards

NOVA, the show choir from Shepard High School, enjoyed a weekend of historic success.

The Astros won taking first place in their division at the Mt. Zion Invitational. The show choir also won the caption awards for Best Vocals and Best Choreography in their division and Best Costumes overall!

It's the first time in choral director Roland Hatcher's short tenure that NOVA won these awards (although they've won many honors in the past.)

"I could not be more proud. As far as I can tell, this is the first time that NOVA has swept every caption of a contest," he said.

Out of 17 total groups, NOVA placed fifth during preliminaries to book their place in the finals. Shepard defeated four other outstanding groups in their division to advance to finals.

"In finals, they placed 5th out of 6 groups, going toe to toe with some of the best show choirs in the entire Midwest - 2 of the 5 judges who saw them had them placed 4th in the final round," Mr. Hatcher said.

"The group was consistently called inspiring, genuine, innovative, and cutting edge; the students couldn't have been more locked in, more professional, or better ambassadors to Shepard," he added.
