Holiday Seatbelt Enforcement Campaign Nets 269 Citations In Oak Lawn
Oak Lawn police ramped up its usual holiday enforcement effort campaign, adding seven local checkpoints and 99 hours of manpower.
OAK LAWN, IL — There were no DUIs, but plenty of seat belt citations issued during the Oak Lawn Police Department’s holiday click-it-or-ticket seat belt enforcement campaign.
From Dec. 15 through Jan. 2, Oak Lawn police ramped up its usual enforcement efforts, adding seven local checkpoints and 99 hours of manpower. The campaign netted 269 seat belt citations, and 48 citations for various other violations, including speeding, distracted driving, uninsured motor vehicle, registration violations, and driving with suspended license.
"We need to drive this message home: Wearing a seat belt can save your life. Not wearing one endangers not only you, but everyone in the vehicle, said Sgt. Acke.

The holiday enforcement campaign is administered by IDOT with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
