Hometown-Murray VFW Holds 'Care Package Drive' Memorial Day Weekend

Drop off care package items at the Hometown-Murray VFW Post throughout Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-25.

Hometown-Murray VFW Post 9773 is holding a ‘Care Package Drive’ throughout the upcoming Memorial Day weekend for military service members stationed overseas.

Items can be dropped off at the VFW Hall, 9092 S. Main St., Hometown. Drop-off hours are from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday; 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday; and Monday before and after the 11 a.m. Memorial Day Ceremony at Patterson Park.

Care packages from home can be a real morale booster to service members stationed overseas, especially those in harm’s way.

Suggested items include: CDs and DVDs, travel-sized toiletries, cotton socks, foot care items (moleskin, medicated foot powder or ointment), powdered drink mixes, meal enhancers (Ramen noodles, seasoned salts, condiment packages) to boost the taste of MREs (meals ready to eat), gum and candy (no chocolate), snacks, quick protein, and homemade baked goods packed in air-tight containers.

Children’s artwork and handmade cards are also appreciated as reminders of home.

Please, DO NOT include foods containing pork or pork by products, pornography, alcohol or VHS tapes.

Also, at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, there will be Memorial Day Ceremony honoring local veterans, active military and those who made the supreme sacrifice at Patterson Park, 8780 S. Main St., Hometown.
