Hometown Woman Killed When Car Crashes in Forest Preserve

Passing motorist reported accident near Saganashkee Slough early Saturday morning

Cook County Sheriff’s Police continue to investigate a crash in which a 30-year-old Hometown woman lost her life in the early morning hours of Saturday, Southtown-Star reported.

Police were called to 107th Street between 104th and Archer Avenues near Willow Springs around 4:55 a.m. Saturday, when a passing motorist called to report an accident at Saganashkee Slough.

When police arrived at the scene a gray Honda was found in the water near the shoreline. The driver, identified as Carie Grimes, of the 8900 block of Main Street, Hometown, was found unresponsive, according to Southtown-Star.

Firefighters from the North Palos Fire Protection District extricated Grimes from the car. She was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 5:53 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

An autopsy revealed that Grimes died from blunt trauma to her head and neck as a result of the accident, the paper said.

Grimes was a bartender at Square Celt Ale House and Grill in Orland Park. A message posted on the bar’s Facebook page on Saturday stated: “Today we lost an amazing Square Celt family member. RIP Carie.”

The accident remains under investigation.
