IL is now a Progressive state and only VBM can change it.

Vote by mail is here to stay so its time to adapt or become extinct.

April 4th came and in the words of Yogi Berra “it's like Deja Vu all over again”. While local elections are deemed non partisan, the democratic party invested to the tune of $500,000 which was provided by Governor J.B. Pritzker to help “approved democratic candidates” win local elections. They even went as far as providing a website showing who the “extremist” are and who was “aligned with their values”. I actually applaud the organizational effort that the progressive party put in to reach voters for municipal elections and how they continue to capitalize on vote by mail. Vote by mail is the newest of voter strategies that has emerged from the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been around for a while but with new law changes in the summer of 2021 the VBM is permanently here to stay. This means people can opt to receive their ballot via mail for any election for the foreseeable future. This will increase voter turnout in all elections from primaries, generals and municipalities. This method has primarily been rejected by Republicans due to Donald Trump describing them as “fraudulent”. I believe this now to be a mistake on our part. Progressives who have not primarily voted on a consistent basis can now sign up to receive a VBM and place their vote on any election they see fit. This will increase their base figures and make them a formidable opponent to any political rival.

Take the Mayor race in Chicago. Vallas opened up with the lead (the moderate candidate) but was surpassed by Mayor elect Johnson as the day went on. As the mail in ballots came in to be counted Johnson closed the gap and ultimately won him the election. This is the same pattern we have now seen since 2020. How many people who vote moderate to conservative know someone who feels the same way but doesn’t vote? These are the folks we need to engage with by voting by mail. This is where the Progressive party has recently outworked the competition and hats off to them for that. As long as the law states that people can vote by mail the number of progressives will increase and if it is unmatched then these elections will be over before they begin. So, Republicans better get on board or as Yogi would put it “We made too many wrong mistakes.”
