OAK LAWN, IL — After two years of playing on the varsity girls volleyball team at Oak Lawn Community High School, junior Amina Maali was ready to step up and play a bigger role for the team. As a result, she became a six-rotation player, she pushed herself to produce more, and she dedicated herself to elevating others.

It has been a success. Maali leads the Spartans in reception passer rating, and the Spartans are playing terrific volleyball with an eight-game winning streak. Most recently, they won the Illinois Math and Science Academy Schwartzwalder Classic title. The Spartans are 23-5 overall and 8-3 in the South Suburban Conference Red.

“Amina has expanded her role this year,”OLCHS head coach Kathleen Miller said. “She communicates efficiently with her teammates and has been a consistent six-rotation player. She pushes herself and her teammates to elevate their level of play. Amina is very competitive and has contributed greatly to our team’s success.”
