Lipinski Hosts Facebook Live COVID-19 Info Event For Seniors

CHICAGO – Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-03) invites seniors to a Facebook Live event about COVID-19 starting at 10 a.m. Monday, June 22. The event features public health experts from around the region, who will provide guidance for seniors on how to avoid getting sick, where to get tested for COVID-19, and how to receive essential services during these difficult times.

Older adults seem to be at an increased risk of developing serious complications from coronavirus. The CDC has made specific recommendations for those over the age of 65 and those living with underlying health conditions such as diabetes, and/or heart or lung disease.

The Facebook Live event will address concerns specific to seniors and offer expert guidance on how to best protect yourself and your loved ones from SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Discussion during the Facebook Live event will be led by Congressman Dan Lipinski who is a senior member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

Congressman Lipinski will be joined by regional experts including:

• Paula Basta, director, Illinois Department on Aging: Resources the Department of Aging is offering or tracking for seniors.
• Sue Olenek, executive director of Will County Health Department: Community-level public health updates.
• Jeff Murphy, University of Chicago Medicine Emergency & Trauma Services: What to expect from medical providers and how to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19.
• Vivian Anderson, Office of the Illinois Secretary of State: The status of Secretary of State services, including driver’s licenses, vehicle stickers, etc. and updates on current office hours and locations.
• Dr. Kiran Joshi, Cook County Department of Public Health: Community-level public health updates.
