BURBANK, IL — A Burbank man who held officers at bay while barricaded in his house on Feb. 7, has been charged with felony criminal damage to property. Edger Dominguez, 29, appeared Thursday before Cook County Judge Terry Gallagher for a bond hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse. Police said they had been to the residence for past domestic situations.

Burbank police responded to a disturbance around 5:30 p.m. in the 8500 block of South Nottingham Avenue. According to the charges, Dominguez and his sister were having an argument when he threw a can of deodorant at her. Believing he may have a gun along with his history of mental issues, Dominguez’s sister and mother left the house and called police, the prosecutor said.

When officers arrived, they met the women outside the house. Police said Dominguez refused to come out and told officers they would have to come get him. Dominguez warned that police that he was armed and officers would have a hard time getting in because he had the whole house barricaded, the prosecutor said.

Other nearby police departments arrived to assist Burbank police. The South Suburban Emergency Response Team was activated. SSERT was able to make contact with Dominguez inside the house. The prosecutor said Dominguez shot out the front bay window with a BB gun. He also shot the TV, according to police. Damages to the window were estimated at $980, and the TV at $3,699.

After three hours, Dominguez surrendered to police. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center for an evaluation, and then transferred to another hospital, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Dominguez’s family were in court and did not wish to proceed with the felony charges.

“You’ll have to discuss that with the state’s attorney,” the judge said.

Bail was set at $10,000. Dominguez is due back in court March 9 at Bridgeview.
