The Mathletes team from Shepard High School won the South Suburban Conference Red Division championship at Oak Lawn High School.
The Astros won first place in five categories, second place in three, and third place in two. The sophomore team from Shepard also won the conference championship.
Students who competed in the Oralist category stood out, according to math teacher Jim Jett.

“We had great presentations by Joe Feldner, Max Szykowny, Gia Swanson, and Leah Bylut,” said Jett, who coaches the Mathletes with Maureen Kall and Bill Geraghty.
