Mom of two men charged in slaying of CPD Officer Ella Fench is accused of fighting police when she tried to see her son at Advocate Christ.

OAK LAWN, IL — The mother of two men charged in the events leading to the fatal shooting of a Chicago police officer and critically wounding another is accused of battering a peace officer at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Evalena Flores, 41, of Chicago, is charged with misdemeanor offenses, including battery, resisting a peace officer, and criminal trespass to real property.

Around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oak Lawn police responded to a disturbance on one of the hospital’s floors, where Emonte Morgan is being treated for gunshot wounds he received in an exchange of gunfire with the partner of slain CPD Officer Ella French last Saturday.

Oak Lawn police said Flores gained access to the floor of the of hospital where her son is in police custody while being treated. Flores tried to get into her son’s room, but was thwarted by two Chicago police officers and an Advocate Christ public safety officer, according to a news release.

As Flores tried to push her way past the officers, police said she kicked the hospital public safety officer in the groin. She continued to resist efforts to take her into custody, while demanding to see her son, police said.

Flores was arrested and taken to the Oak Lawn police station. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office denied felony charges, and Flores was subsequently charged with misdemeanors. She is due in court Sept. 15 at the Bridgeview Courthouse.

Earlier Tuesday, bail was denied for Emonte, 21, and Eric Morgan, 22, during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.
