How To Get Reimbursed For Nationwide AT&T U-Verse Outage

Were you affected by the nationwide AT&T U-Verse outage that affected service in the south suburbs? You may eligibile for a credit.

ILLINOIS — If you were one of thousands of customers affected by nationwide AT&T U-Verse outage last weekend’s subzero temperatures, you may be eligible for a credit the days you were out.

Residents in Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park, Hometown, Evergreen Park, the Paloses, Chicago Ridge and Alsip jumped on social media to report that they had no U-Verse TV last Jan. 12 through Jan. 15, and were getting few answers from AT&T customer service about an estimated restoration time.

A local resident said he was told by an AT&T technician that squirrels had chewed the fiber optic cable. Many others reported waiting on hold for two or more hours to speak to an AT&T customer service representative. U-Verse service slowly began trickling back on Monday morning.

To receive a credit for the time service was down during the outage, call 800-288-2020 and request billing. Credits are not automatically applied, so customers need to contact AT&T.

AT&T billing office hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The average credit given for an extended outage is $5 per day, depending on how much time you want to spend on hold and getting frustrated, according to AT&T community forums.

If you'd like to report an AT&T outage, you can contact AT&T's customer service.
The AT&T contact number is 800-331-0500, or you can simply dial 611 if you have an AT&T cell phone.
