Next Gen GOP

Modernizing election mechanics

(James MacElwain design )

It feels like the GOP is at a crossroads in the upcoming 2024 Election with the stakes pretty high. World wide conflict appears to be moving closer to reality as China places its bets in the democratic process in Taiwan with military options if they lose the election. Russia has Ukraine on its heels according to leaked documents. BRIC is gaining members to move oil off the U.S. Dollar in what is starting to appear as an “Anti-American” movement is sweeping the Eurasian landscape. French President Emmanuel Macron has spewed similar comments after a visit with China. The world seems prime for another major conflict that many of us don’t wish to see happen.

Domestically, we face high inflation, high taxes and crime spikes that seem out of a D.C./ Marvel movie. On the night of April 15th we had over 200 young kids run rampant all over the southern part of the downtown Chicago portion of Michigan ave. Couple all of this with growing threats from social fringe groups like the trans community who are now taking action with cold blooded murder of innocent people in the “fight for trans rights for kids” (How Ironic)

Our beloved GOP needs to turn the page on what has recently worked prior to Covid. Our methods of rejecting new voter laws is not inline with how the GOP has always operated. The GOP has enacted many changes for the better over the time of its existence for Women, Black people and currently has a lot in common with values wise with the Latino community. Why can’t we reach them then? I believe it’s because our methods need a makeover

Everyone starts this next portion of the conversation with “we need to be grassroots”. What does that actually mean? Donors have placed a lot of their funds and trust into consulting companies who have won elections prior to Covid. The implementation of vote by mail (with a permanent option) will have a compounding effect on the election results up to at least 2030 for national, state and local. When I look at the competition I see their party leaders and orgs collaborating with their grassroots orgs to implement strategies to encourage, collect and instruct on vote by mail and their results have halted the “Red Wave”, increased their voter turnout in IL municipal elections and have their eye on another supermajority in 2024 (including the white house). Recently the democrat party supplied money to their orgs in IL to the tune of 500k. That proved to curb the take over of school, library and community college boards in IL

Every situation has a tragic angle and an opportunity angle. The opportunity angle is to collaborate with our donor class and the grass roots to build an apparatus that can compete in the modern election process. Voting early is now the norm and should be the primary objective of our new collaboration efforts. Phone banking to follow up with known early voters, a campaign from the grassroots to encourage that friend who agrees with our views but doesn’t prioritize voting for this, that or the other. That is the vote we really need! Train our grassroots on how to engage with voters so a more uniformed approach is reflected to our independent voter base in IL. This requires resources to conduct this along with the labor force to produce. It seems like we have both now so how come we can’t come together and construct this apparatus?

Voter turnout is the real issue we have in IL for a number of reasons, so let's turn the page and begin to write the next chapter of this story.
