Oak Lawn Bank Heist Tied to Serial Robber: FBI

Heavyset man who robbed Oak Lawn bank on Sept. 17 tied to bank robberies in Bridgeview and Midlothian, FBI says.

OAK LAWN, IL -- The heavyset man who robbed a bank in Oak Lawn on Sept. 17 has been tied to two other area robberies, according to the FBI-run website Bandit Tracker Chicago.

The FBI said that the portly bandit entered the the US Bank branch at 10270 S. Central Ave. in Oak Lawn around 11:03 a.m. and passed a note to a bank employee, demanding money. He fled on foot with an unknown amount of cash.

The same man is suspected of robbing two other area banks, including the US Bank branch at 8739 S. Harlem Ave., Bridgeview on Aug. 9. He also is said to have knocked off the BMO Harris, 4050 W. 147th St., Midlothian on Aug. 25.

The FBI said all three bank heists were non-takeover robberies. No weapon was displayed during the hold-ups. In the Bridgeview robbery, the suspect wore a floral, floppy hat.

The suspect is described as a heavyset black male, around 6-foot-3-inches tall and weighing 250 pounds. Witnesses in the Oak Lawn robbery told police the man wore a black-and-white, button-down shirt, black sunglasses and a black, flat-billed hat.

Anyone who recognizes the individual or has knowledge of the robbery is asked to call the FBI’s Chicago office at 312-421-6700.
