OAK LAWN, IL -- The Village of Oak Lawn will be picking up debris and damaged items after a storm swept through the village on Memorial Day, knocking down tree limbs and sending water rushing through the streets.

Republic Services, the village’s waste collector, will be collecting storm debris this week and next week. Residents can put branches curbside, along with flood-damaged items, such as carpeting and furniture.

What Republic cannot collect, village manager Larry Deethen said Oak Lawn’s public works department will pick up.

“This doesn’t mean cleaning out your garage,” Deetjen said. “This is for storm damaged items only.”

Due to the Memorial Day, Republic Services is running on a holiday schedule. Residents regularly scheduled waste collection will be one day later.
