Oak Lawn District 218 Coronavirus Update

Staff, students, parents, and community members:
This is an update regarding COVID-19. Clearly this is a rapidly evolving situation that is causing a great deal of anxiety among our staff, our students, and our communities. Please be assured that CHSD 218 is continuing to monitor and address this situation.
Currently, there are NO reported cases of COVID-19 among the staff and students of District 218.

At this time, school is still in session. However, contingency plans have been put in place for a POSSIBLE school closing should conditions warrant such a decision. If it becomes necessary for the district to temporarily close schools, the established and approved CHSD 218 e-learning plan will be activated.
Effective immediately, however, ALL field trips, out of district professional development, school sponsored spring break trips, and other non-IHSA sanctioned events have been cancelled until further notice. We continue to be in communication with ISBE, IHSA, and local and federal health authorities and continue to monitor this fluid situation. We understand that such a decision interrupts many worthwhile plans, but the safety and health of our students and staff take priority.

In addition to the above, we wanted to let you know that we’re taking every preventive measure possible.

• CHSD 218 will continue its longstanding efforts of disinfecting high-touch services such as desks, light switches, faucets, cafeteria tables, fitness equipment, keyboards, lockers, and other areas in the buildings.
• In between passing periods, the custodians are disinfecting door hardware, push bars, and handrails.
• Custodians wipe down cafeteria tables after each lunch period with disinfectant.
• Additionally, our custodial staff is restocking offices and classrooms nightly with hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.
• All of the antimicrobial products in use are registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to use against COVID-19.

We will continue to follow recommendations established by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

These recommendations include frequent washing of hands, covering coughs and sneezes, cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces, and having students and staff stay home when they are sick.

Please be reminded, again, that this is a rapidly changing event and decisions may change at a moment’s notice.

Personal escolar, estudiantes, padres/tutores, y miembros de la comunidad:

Este es un solo correo electrónico de actualización sobre COVID 19. Claramente, esta es una situación en rápida evolución que está causando mucha ansiedad entre nuestro personal, nuestros estudiantes y nuestras comunidades. Tenga por seguro que CHSD 218 continúa monitoreando y abordando esta situación. Actualmente, NO hay casos reportados de coronavirus entre el personal o los estudiantes del Distrito 218.

En este momento, clases todavía están en sesión. Sin embargo, se han implementado planes de contingencia para un POSIBLE cierre de la escuela en caso de que las condiciones lo justifiquen. Si se hace necesario que el distrito cierre temporalmente las escuelas, se activará el plan de aprendizaje electrónico, el programa establecido y aprobado por CHSD 218.

Sin embargo, con vigencia inmediata, TODAS las excursiones, desarrollo profesional fuera del distrito, viajes de vacaciones de primavera patrocinados por la escuela, y otros eventos no aprobados por IHSA han sido cancelados hasta nuevo aviso. Continuamos en comunicación con ISBE, IHSA, y autoridades locales y federales y seguimos monitoreando esta situación fluida. Entendemos que tal decisión interrumpe muchos planes que valen la pena, pero la seguridad y la salud de nuestros estudiantes y personal tiene prioridad.

Además de lo anterior, queríamos informarle que estaban tomando todas las medidas preventivas posibles.

• CHSD 218 continuará su esfuerzo de desinfectar servicios de alto contacto como escritorios, interruptores de luz, grifos, mesas de la cafetería, equipos de gimnasio, teclados, casillero y otras áreas del edificio.
• Entre cada periodo clase, el personal de mantenimiento sigue desinfectando los herrajes de las puertas, las barras de empuje y los pasamanos.
• El personal de mantenimiento limpia las mesas de la cafetería después de cada periodo de almuerzo con desinfectante.
• Adicionalmente, nuestro personal de mantenimiento está reponiendo las oficinas y salones de clases todas las noches con desinfectante para manos y toallitas desinfectantes.
• Todos los productos antimicrobianos en uso están registrados por la Agencia de Protección Ambiental (EPA) para usar contra COVID-19.

Continuaremos siguiendo las recomendaciones establecidas por Los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC) y el Departamento de Salud Pública de Illinois (IDPH).

Estas recomendaciones incluyen lavarse las manos con frecuencia, cubrirse al toser y estornudar, limpiar y desinfectar objetos y superficies que se tocan con frecuencia y que los estudiantes y el personal se queden en casa cuando están enfermos.

Recuerde, nuevamente, que este es un evento que cambia rápidamente y las decisiones pueden cambiar en cualquier momento.
