Oak Lawn, Hometown Mark Memorial Day With Wreath Laying, 21 Gun Salute
Oak Lawn and Hometown will be holding separate remembrance ceremonies on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27.
OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn and Hometown will be participating in a nearly 160-year tradition honoring members of the armed forces who lost their lives in service to their country on Memorial Day, which this year falls on Monday, May 27.

Residents, veterans and active military will start gathering at 10:30 a.m. by the Oak Lawn Veterans Memorial, 9427 S. Raymond Ave. (95th Street @ Raymond Avenue), behind the library.
Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220 will mark Memorial Day with a ceremony beginning at 11 a.m.
Guest speakers include Mayor Terry Vorderer, a combat Vietnam veteran, and Worth Township Supervisor Patricia Murphy. The Ladies Auxiliary of Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220, Disabled American Veterans, Purple Heart Veterans and the Swallow Cliff chapter of the Illinois Daughters of the American Revolution.
The ceremony concludes with the playing of Taps and a 21-gun salute by VFW members.
Coffee and pastries follow immediately at VFW Post 5220, 9514 S. 52nd Ave.

“I extend an invitation to all to pay their respects to the men and women who have given their lives in all our past wars to protect our country,” Vorderer said.

The City of Hometown at 11 a.m. Monday by the Patterson Park flame (Main Street and Pulaski Road).
