Diamond Gems

Oak Lawn returns two starters but is coming off an exciting summer.  The Spartans pushed perennial power Brother Rice to the limit before letting a five-run seventh-inning lead slip away.

“If we can regain the momentum we had at the end of the summer season, we should be able to compete in the South Suburban Red Conference,” Clifton said.

Though Oak Lawn lacks varsity experience, the Spartans figure to have a powerful lineup, featuring Krupa, Swistek and Volanti. The three should have plenty of RBI opportunities with the ability of Quillin and Cody Marek to reach base.

“I feel we have a group of guys who have committed themselves to achieving success at this level and the competition to earn opportunities can only make us better,” Clifton said.
