OAK LAWN, IL -- An Oak Lawn man is accused of burglarizing two cars last October. David Vazquez, 36, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on two felony counts of burglary to auto. Vazquez was picked up on a warrant Jan. 19.
According to the charges, the owner told Oak Lawn police she saw Vazquez standing by the open front passenger door of her car on Oct. 5, 2017. The center console was open and the contents were strewn around the inside. When Vazquez saw her coming, he fled, the prosecutor said. A few hours later Vazquez returned with a woman. The owner’s husband confronted Vazquez outside, who fled dropping his wife's coffee mug as he ran away. Police said $1,500 was missing from the car. The couple identified Vazquez from a photo array.
A few weeks later, on Oct. 17, 2017, Vazquez was allegedly spotted sitting in the front passenger seat of another car. The owner of the car told police he saw Vazquez going through the center console. The owner briefly chased Vazquez, who made good on his escape, the prosecutor said. Vazquez was identified in a photo array.
