Oak Lawn Police Begin End-Of-Summer Labor Day DUI Crackdown
Oak Lawn police will be paying extra attention to the roads through Labor Day, Sept. 3, for impaired drivers and seat belt violators.

OAK LAWN, IL -- The Oak Lawn Police Department has started its end-of-summer crackdown on impaired drivers in anticipation of the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend. From now until the early morning hours of Sept. 4 police will be running extra DUI enforcement patrols. Officers will also be looking for seat belt violators.
The high-visibility enforcement is part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over " campaign. Expect law enforcement in nearby communities and around the state to show zero tolerance for impaired driving. Labor Day is considered the most deadly weekend for holiday driving. Statistics show that an average of 10,000 people were killed each year from 2012 to 2016, that’s one fatality every 50 minutes, or the equivalent of 20 jumbo jets crashing each year with no survivors.

Partiers and picnickers are encouraged to designate a sober driver or call a cab or ride sharing service rather than driving home bombed. All occupants of vehicles must also be wearing seat belts. The National Safety Council that more than 400 people will die in car and trucking accidents during the Labor Day holiday weekend.
