OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn police arrested one impaired driver during the 2019 “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” a marked improvement over past holiday campaigns. Village police ramped up their usual enforcement efforts, adding seven local checkpoints and seven roving units. Extra emphasis was placed on late night hours, when statistics show most unbuckled and impaired driving fatalities occur.

In addition to the impaired driving arrest, from Dec. 16, 2019 to Jan. 2, 2020, Oak Lawn police issued the following traffic citations:

  • 175 seat belt
  • 16 speeding
  • 3 distracted driving
  • 3 suspended/revoked licenses
  • 43 miscellaneous violations

The Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
