Oak Lawn Police Release Results of Labor Day DUI Crackdown

DUI arrests increased from similar July DUI and seat belt enforcement campaign.

OAK LAWN, IL -- The Oak Lawn Police Department Announces Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Crackdown Results Oak Lawn, IL –

The Oak Lawn Police Department released results for the village’s Labor Day DUI crackdown. Illinois’s annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign was conducted from Aug. 22 to Sept. 5.

During that time period, Oak Lawn police made 17 drunk driving arrests during the Labor Day crackdown, an increase of three over the holiday DUI enforcement patrol from June 21 to July 5, during which 14 alleged drunk drivers were arrested.

Police also issued 134 seat belt citations during the Labor Day enforcement campaign, 77 of which occurred during nighttime hours. Compared to July’s results, 141 citations were written, 79 during the nighttime hours.

Nationally, in 2014, 9,967 people were killed in drunk driving crashes, making up nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities for that year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration..
