The Village of Oak Lawn VFW Post 5220 hosted a Memorial Day Ceremony in which Village Officials, Veterans, active-duty military members, their families and many community members came together to honor and remember those who died serving in the armed forces.
The program started with the VFW Post #5220 Asst. Quartermaster Christopher Reich introducing Rev. Jason Anderson from Trinity Lutheran Church who gave the opening prayer, along with reciting the Pledge of Allegience.
The program featured Master of Ceremonies -VFW Post #5220 Asst. Quartermaster and Member of Board of Directors, Christopher Reich, -VFW Post #5220 Commander - Bryant Reed, and a variety of guest speakers which included Congresswoman Marie Newman and Oak Lawn Mayor Terry Vorderer.

Some of the solemn parts of the ceremony were the laying of the wreaths: VFW Wreath - Bonnie Reich and Joseph Reich
Aux Wreath - Kathy and Toni Smentene
American Legion Wreath - Lt. Dan and Leslie Johnson
Daughters of Revolution Wreath - Linda Gray, Audra Gray, Gale Shafter and Eles Miller
Disabled Veterans / Purple Heart Wreath - Paul "Gunner" Marietta and Jeannie Marietta; Gold Star Wreath - Fran Pontrell and Gayle Bukowski, the 21-gun Salute, the playing of Tabs, the National Anthem sung by Erin Jennings Vorderer, and God Bless America sung by Andrea Zumhagen.
