OAK LAWN, IL — Senior Jake Canvin knows consistency, and for the last four years on the varsity boys golf team, he has consistently improved. So, it was not a surprise that he finished off his high school career at the Illinois High School Association Sectional with a par on the 18th hole. The consistent play certainly helped him earn honors as the Oak Lawn Community High School Athlete of the Month for October.

Canvin’s nine-hole average was a 39, and he was a medalist in nine matches, amassing seven birdies along the way. He participated in the IHSA Regional and qualified to play in the sectional in back-to-back years as well.

“Jake took on a leadership role this season and has helped the younger players improve their game,” OLCHS head coach Shawn Neubauer said. “He was a four-year varsity player and improved his nine-hole and 18-hole averages every year.”
