Oak Lawn Spartan Gymnast Translates Skills To Diving

OAK LAWN, IL — Gymnastics can translate to diving in so many ways with similar movements, twists, and spins. For sophomore gymnast Cohen Laylo, his gymnastics’ skills have converted over to diving in a big way. In fact, the Oak Lawn Community High School diver is now among one of the top divers in the area.

At the Andrew freshmen/sophomore Invitational he took fourth place, and at the Argo Dive Invite he took second place. In two separate swim meets, he has scored above 230 points in six dives, which is not too far from the Oak Lawn frosh/soph record.

“Cohen has begun to emerge himself as one of the top divers in the area,” OLCHS head swim coach Derek Maciaga said. “He has really dedicated himself to perfecting his dives. Cohen looks to perform his best in some of the upcoming competitions that include the Hinsdale Central Dive Invite, the South Suburban Conference meet, and the Illinois High School Association Sectional meet.”
