OAK LAWN, IL -- Oak Lawn Spartans impressed at the South Suburban Conference science competition. Eleven schools competed in 15 science-related categories. The competition took place Feb. 27 at Thornton Fractional North High School. Students showcased their skills in a variety of areas, ranging from field ecology to paper airplane and bridge building.

Yusra Abdelrahman took fourth place in egg drop; Michal Malek and Trinidad Arteaga took third place in field ecology; Jacob Luzadder and Emily Stachowicz took second place in write it, do it and fourth place in environmental exam.

Johnathon Weber and Arvin Wallack took second place in bridge building; and Allan McAlpine took second place alternative for bridge building and fourth place for qualitative analysis. And, for the second year in a row, Jesus Mendia defended his title as paper airplane champion.
