Oak Lawn Trustee Races: By the Numbers
A precinct-by-precinct breakdown of Oak Lawn's Dist. 1, Dist. 2, Dist. 4 and Dist. 6 races, April 9, 2013.

The Mayor's Independence Party candidates won only two precincts across four races for village board trustree in the April 9 election.
Dave Heilmann lost his own bid for third term as Oak Lawn mayor to political novice, Sandra Bury.
Bury is the first woman to be elected to serve as mayor of Oak Lawn.

Mayor’s Independence Party trustee candidates Julie Misner and Carol Sheahan each picked up split precinct in their respective Dist. 2 and Dist. 6 races.

Cindy Trautsch’s brief sojourn as the appointed first district trustee ended when she lost her bid for an elected two-year term. The mayor’s slated candidate battled it out with Oak Lawn Independent Tim Desmond in Dist. 1, on the west end of Oak Lawn.
Both Desmond and Bury swept Dist. 1's eight precincts, with Desmond garnering 62 percent of the vote. Desmond won 797 votes to Trautsch’s 481.
Mayor's candidate Julie Misner picked up a precinct in the Dist. 2 race, winning 37 votes in Precinct 40, a split precincet between Dist. 2 and Dist. 4, at PRIDE Alternative School at 4201 W. 93rd St.
Miser lost the district's remaining five precincts to Alex Olejniczak, who cruised his way to a third term as Dist. 2 trustee.
Oleniczak crushed Misner, a former Dist. 123 school board member, with 66 percent of the vote, or 1,092 to 548.
Independent Terry Vorderer emerged victorious in a three-way race for Dist. 4 trustee.
The retired-police division chief beat out Mayor’s Independence Party candidate Tim Reilly and incumbent Tom Duhig, commandeering Dist. 4’s seven precincts.
Vorderer won 47.59 percent, or 791 votes.
Ranking second and third were Reilly, with 460 votes, and Duhig with 411.
Oak Lawn First candidate Mike Carberry dominated the Dist. 6 trustee race, capturing 42 percent or 922 votes.
Carol Sheahan came in second with 665 votes. Sheahan was the mayor’s other slated candidate to pick up a precinct, winning at the Oak View Center’s split 100th precinct in Dist. 5/6, where Heilmann stages his community theater productions.
Independent Joe Sorrentino, president of the Dist. 123 school board, came in third with 622 votes in the race for Dist. 6 trustee. Sorrentino will retain his elected position on the D123 school board.
