Spartans Are Bass Masters

The Oak Lawn High School fishing team finished the season on a strong note, placing second at the District 230 Bass Series Bass Classic. In the third and final bass tournament of the series at the Des Plaines and Kankakee River, the Spartans caught five largemouths that weighed over 7.6 pounds.

“These boys are die-hard fishermen,” coach Chris Kuchyt said in a news release. “It was so much fun for me to watch them catch these fish and then try to unhook them while their hands were shaking from all the adrenaline pumping through their bodies.”

According to the release, Omar Abdulla carried the team early in the season, catching enough bass to qualify for the final tournament. Ben Masek stepped up in the team’s final tournament, catching four fish despite not catching any in the previous two tournaments. Carlos Patino added a bass in the final minutes of the tournament.
