OLCHS Brings Jukebox Musical 'Rock of Ages' To The Stage

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Community High School’s storied theater program hits the boards this weekend in the fall musical “Rock of Ages,” featuring your favorite 80s rock anthems. Performances are Oct. 26, Oct. 27 and Oct 28 at 7 p.m., in the OLCHS Performing Arts Center.

This five-time Tony-nominated musical tells the story of a small-town girl, a city boy, and a rock ‘n’ roll romance on the Sunset Strip. But when the bar where rock reigns supreme is set to be demolished, it’s up to these wannabe rockers and their band of friends to save the day – and the music. Rock of Ages’ features a fierce electric score and soaring rock anthems and power ballads, including “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” “I Wanna Know What Love Is,” “Here I Go Again,” “Don't Stop Believin’” and many more.

The cast of over 50 students include Mikey Mills as Lonny Barnett, Orlando Ramirez as Drew Boley, Francesca Crosby as Sherrie Christian, Billy McNichols as Dennis Dupree, Maggie Sheehan as Anita Bath, Jayla Clark as Justice Charlier and Jet Pelaez and Luke Tesinsky splitting the role of Stacee Jaxx.

Freshman Emely Rodriguez said, “I love the adrenaline rush theater gives you and it allows you to connect more with yourself,” freshman Emely Rodriguez said.

Sophomore Henry Evers summarized his experience in ten words: “Get there. Practice choreography. Five minute break. Leave.”

Veteran crew member and senior Saeed Mulhem added, “I enjoy crew because I can spend time with friends and I enjoy building.”

Tickets are just $12 and can be purchased in advance from Vanco events or at the door. Performances are at 7 p.m. Oct. 26, Oct. 27 and Oct. 28 in the OLCHS Michael Riordan Performing Arts Center, 9400 Southwest Highway, Oak Lawn.
