OAK LAWN, IL — Globally-conscious Spartans are turning their focus locally to employees of local businesses affected by the coronavirus shutdown. Oak Lawn Community High School’s “Cross Countries” club is coordinating a relief effort benefiting Oak Lawn businesses

Over the next month, the “Locked Down … But Not Out” virtual fundraiser is rising money for village residents hit the hardest by the global COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative is centered around a GoFundMe campaign that runs through May 15. The young difference-makers have raised $4,000 toward a fundraising goal of $6,000.

“Unfortunately, the local business shutdown has affected many community members and their families,” a statement on the OL-Relief GoFundMe page read. “Although not physically able to be in school, they have come together to raise money for those in need. All funds generated by this campaign will be divided equally among as many businesses as we can support. Your consideration and generosity would go a long way to helping heal our community. Any donation, large or small, would be greatly appreciated.”
