OLCHS Dist. 229 Earns 'Commendable' Designation On IL Report Card
Oak Lawn Community High School students have shown notable academic progress in several areas compared to previous years, ISBE said.

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Community High School Dist. 229 achieved a “commendable” designation from the data released by the Illinois State Board of Education on Oct. 30. The annual report card for state schools provided a detailed look at the school’s progress on multiple areas including academics, students’ success, school culture and climate, and financial investments.
A “commendable” rating is the second highest designation a school in Illinois can receive, meaning that a school that has no underperforming student groups, a graduation rate greater than 67 percent, and whose performance is not in the top 10 percent of schools statewide.
According to the ISBE review, OLCHS students have shown notable academic progress in several areas compared to previous years. Specifically, the percentage of 9th grade students on track for graduation increased by 3.6 percent from the previous year. In Science, there was a significant 10.4 percent improvement in the number of students meeting or exceeding the ISBE benchmark. Additionally, Oak Lawn students outperformed the state average in this area by 3.1 percent.

“We are proud of our designation this year and have much to celebrate,” first-year Superintendent, Dr. Shahe Bagdasarian said in a news release. “We will continue to focus on our district/school work plans to provide the best educational opportunities for our students. With the partnership of our parents, students, staff and community, we can continue to make substantial gains.”
