OLCHS Spartans Gear Up For 2018 Homecoming

Oak Lawn Community High School celebrates homecoming with a parade and pep assembly on Sept. 20 followed by OLCHS v. Reavis game on Sept. 21

OAK LAWN, IL -- Who can take the sunrise, sprinkle it with dew, cover it with chocolate and a miracle or two, the Spartans in Candyland can. Oak Lawn Community High School is preparing for that time-honored fall tradition called homecoming for the week of Sept. 17. The OLCHS student council have a whole slew of activities planned during the school week where students are encouraged to show their school spirit, including Clash of the Spartans pep assembly, Roll Outta Bed Tootsie Roll Day, where students come to school in their pajamas, Hawaiian Punch Day and Taste the Neon Rainbow Day.

The week culminates with the annual homecoming parade, featuring retiring OLCHS teachers John Robinson and Kelly Rumel as the Grand Marshalls, Homecoming Court, football team and and extracurricular activities. The parade steps off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, from Weslyan Church south down Austin Avenue. The pep rally and fireworks immediately follow at Napleton Field on the OLCHS campus.

OLCHS junior varsity and varsity football teams take on the Reavis High School Rams Friday, Sept. 21. The JV game starts at 5 p.m., and the varsity game kicks off at 7 p.m.

Then prepare to encounter a lot of students hitting the village clip joints and flower shops on Saturday, Sept. 22, as they get ready for the OLCHS Homecoming Dance “Spartans In Candyland.” The dance will take place from 7 to 10 p.m.in the Spartan Gym.

Parents, alumni and community members are welcome to attend the parade, pep rally and football games to cheer on the OLCHS Spartans.
